We begun the shoot day by breifing the actors on what the piece was about. we decided to shoot in the studio as the lighting is easy to adjust and we knew that we would not be interupted. our riginal story board was compleatly different from our finished product. we began by making the set which consisted of three walls made to look like brick, a wooden floor with overturned chairs and paper scattered on the floor. we wanted to make it look like a basemtn which in the end i think it did. there was a window in the wall with a black curtain behind it and the had a constant blue light shining on it to look like a police car parked out side.
we had out 'bodies' (KV and Ben) lying on the floor close together to make it easier to shootand we added proceeded to cover them in blood.
the went for still shots rather than tracking because it would be easier to edit in the end, if we had chosed hard shots to edit it would have looked scrappy.
we began by taking silent close ups of the victims, in these shots we did pan over their bodies, but we ended up taking still from these shots and using them in them in the credits.
we films every four or so lines about 6 times each from different angles and distances so that we would have a wide variety of shots when editing.
we used one light shining throught the door of the set which gave us some effective creepy shaddows and made the actors look threating if we wanted to or we could move the light to expose more of the face to make them seem more apprachable. the only problem with this is that when editing if the light changed you coudnt used two shots of the same section together without it look arteficial.
we gave our female inspector (Holly) a sophisticated wet sexy costume, we wanted to have a feme fetal impression. The Detective (Sam) was casually dressed to show hollys higher status. We used holly becuase it is easy to make her look sexy-sophisticated and polished, at the time Sams hair was fairley long so he appealed because it was easy to give him a scruffy look.
One of the biggest problems with edditing was the sound. in the shots we had many different levels of pits in the background. i overrode this with a quiet rain in the background but it was sitll audiable so it took a while to change the sound levels without ruining the quality of the dialouge.
my main role was directing, which i enjoyed, to begin with i didnt want to seem bossy but once i realied that the cast werent taking it to heart i got more confident and we all ended up making points on a scene and improving it.
We worked really well as a team, we all enjoy and are better at different things, my main strenght was editing, the other tow girls in the group were good at costume design and set design. we all edited and filmed.
the editing proscess has been long but it really addictive to the point that i have to stop myself from overedditing. we had almost finish, we just had to put it into HD now. im really happy with the overall product. Everyone project turned out differently which proves that everyone had their own origional ideas. the shoot day we at some points stressful but overall it was really fun which made it easy to focus and get on with the task at hand.
